Kathmandu in Nepal has a wide range of vegan friendly restaurants.
Beyond the traditional Nepali dal bhat and momo, you can try plant based Indian curries, fresh Middle Eastern falafel, Nasi goreng, Italian pizza, Thai Stir Frys, American burgers and smoothie bowls.
Travellers to Kathmandu can also explore the ancient temples of Swayambhunath and Boudhanath, wander around Kathmandu, Patan and Bhaktapur Durbar Squares, and wake up early in the morning to get lost in the bustling streets of Thamel. Check out the 10 Best Things to See and Do in Kathmandu!
I visited Kathmandu in September 2024 so these vegan friendly places are up to date!

ORGANIC SMOOTHIE BOWL & CAFE
Opens at 7am for breakfast, I love the inside vibe of this cute little cafe. The smoothie bowls were wonderful and staff were friendly. Everything is clean.

ACE HIMALAYAN CAFE
Located on a main road, I had my first Nepali Dal Bhat here. Vegan options are clearly marked on the menu. Very friendly and homely restaurant, this is a lovely place to visit.

SWARG PURE VEGETARIAN
This isn’t on Happy Cow but I found it by searching on Google Maps. I had a typical Indian dish that is vegan called Aloo Sadheko which is kind of like a Potato Salad. You need to walk up a flight of stairs to reach the restaurant.

FRENCH BAKERY
Lots of vegan options here! Items clearly marked and they also have vegan products for sale inside like soy milk, sauces, cakes and bread.

LOVING HEART
Oh I wish I’d come here more! I visited on my last night in Kathmandu and had famous Nepali MoMo’s! First time I ever had them and they were delicious. I wanted to sit upstairs on the rooftop so you need to walk up this circular metal stairs so if you’re afraid of heights, maybe stay inside downstairs. I had trouble finding the restaurant at first so I’ve added a picture of the front where you need to enter so it helps you. Then you walk up 3 flights of stairs.

MITHO RESTAURANT
Off a side street, they have seating near the window so you can watch the world go by. Vegan options clearly marked and plant based milk. Opens at 7am, so perfect for early birds.

VERA PIZZA
If you want something different and craving pizza, they have two vegan pizzas here that are clearly marked vegan. Nice vibe in a clean side street.

UTPALA CAFE (Boudha)
Oh the vibe of this cafe is gorgeous! The staff are so kind and friendly and there’s a few dogs around just chilling and you might come across some Buddhist Monks who come in too! Really delicious smoothie bowl.

PEEDEE BEANS COFFEE (Boudha)
I went here a couple of times because they have vegan friendly food and one of the best views of the Boudha Stupa from their restaurant window! There was also a random cat wandering around who wanted to just chill next to me and sleep
