Labuan Bajo is a small port town nestled in the picturesque Indonesian island of Flores and is renowned for being the jump off point to Komodo National Park. This tropical paradise has a surprising amount of vegan and vegetarian food options and is popular among adventure seekers and diving enthusiasts as it has vibrant marine life and is off the beaten path. Only a short 1 hour flight from Bali, (don’t forget your visa on arrival and your important apps!), this is a perfect place to explore.

Vegan Friendly Restaurants and Cafes
1. BURGER TIME

On their menu is an actual vegan burger! And this was one of the best burgers I’ve ever had in my life. It reminded me of Lord of the Fries in Australia!
2. HAPPY BANANA KOMODO

This is such an eclectic restaurant! The decor inside is very unique. It has clearly marked vegan options such as Vegan Katsu Wrap, Udon Bowl, Mie Goreng and Nasi Goreng, Vegan Gyoza, Vegan Raw Snickers Bar.
3. MIMAMORI CAFE

This cute health food cafe opened only a month before I went there. They have marked vegan options and know what vegan means. Their highlight is the “Build your own breakfast” where you tick off 4 different options for a flat rate. They also have almond, soy and oat milk.
4. THE JUICE BAR BY BAJO BLOOM

Another cute health food cafe, this is a great place to go for delicious and filling smoothie bowls as well as juice, coffee and smoothies.
5. SENJA EATERY

One of the best views in Labuan Bajo, this lovely indoor/outdoor restaurant with Balinese-Manggarai food has a vegetarian menu which you can tweak to be vegan. They understand what vegan means.
6. CAFE MELINGO FRENCH FLAVOUR

A French cafe in Flores? Yes there is! Their baking and pastry techniques come from France but I had a smoothie bowl when I ate there. The bowl had such a variety of different fruits on top it was great! And I loved their iced coffee with soy milk.
7. STARBUCKS

I was so surprised when I walked into Starbucks in Labuan Bajo. Directly opposite the main mosque, it feels like it should be in the middle of Kuta and not this beautiful town! I was also surprised when I saw they had vegan chocolate chip cookies and a vegan sloppy-joe sandwich!
8. CHRISTOPHER KOMODO TOURS

I booked this wonderful 1 day slow boat tour to Padar Island, Komodo Island, Pink Beach and Manta Point when I arrived the day before and they had a “vegetarian” option for lunch which actually turned out to be vegan!
9. MAISON BELMONT
This Icecream shop is situated on the Main Street of Labuan Bajo and has vegan gelato options.
10. BACARITA CAFE
Located above Starbucks on the second level opposite the main mosque. This place offers a souvenir shop with a cafe out the back. You can get smoothie bowls and drinks here.
11. KOMODOUGH
Having one of the most creative names ever, this bakery and coffee house plans on having vegan friendly options available from July 2023.

OTHER RESOURCES
The Labuan Bajo page on Happy Cow is looking a little sad with not much information so I’ll try and get that updated asap. Hopefully some other vegans can visit Labuan Bajo and help with the update too! You can also go to Google Maps and type in “vegan” and see what pops up.
